We’ve made it through our first week!

As difficult as it was, we have made it through our first week of travel. It was a rough landing at the Barcelona airport, but now we are back on our feet, enjoying ourselves. Sadly, school has started. Now every afternoon, me and Miles assemble for four or five periods of learning. Yay.
Some highlights from our first week:
-the crazy chimney pots on the roof of Casa Mila and Palau Güell, kooky houses designed by Antoni Gaudi
-the bustling Boqueria, a huge food market where we saw everything from dragon fruit to lines of hanging cured ham (with the hooves still on!) to shrimp that were still twitching
-the cute, yappy dog who keeps popping out onto the balcony next door
-the stone snails, salamanders and frogs that decorate the big, unfinished church Gaudi designed called La Sagrada Familia
–Museu Picasso (we passed the interesting looking Museu de Mamut on the way to this but decided not to go!)
-watching people make big bubbles in the park. The parks are really busy in the evenings!
-the zoo for “kids choice” day
Some good new foods I tried:
-thick hot chocolate with whipped cream, a Barcelona specialty
-bread rubbed with fresh tomato, called pan con tomate
-jamon! including the bellota kind (the pigs are raised on acorns, that’s supposed to make it taste extra good!)
-seafood paella
On Friday we are heading to Italy in the evening on an overnight ferry. I’ll write more then. Hello to all my friends who started school in Seattle this week! I miss you!
So great to get the updates! An amazing first week of world school! Xoxo L
Hi Della! I love your first blog on the road. Except for the school comment- I thought all the work you are doing would be a highlight. 🙂 I am glad you enjoyed so many adventures in Spain.
Hi Della,
What fun you are having! Anxious to hear more adventures as you move around the world. You are giving us a virtual tour. Love, Grammie & Grampie
